The growth of digital technologies has ushered in a new era of how companies effectively engage with key stakeholders on issues. Online outreach and engagement tools are critical components to successfully communicating with the audiences you need to reach and providing them with relevant and timely information. At a recent PR News Conference, Forum’s Vice President of Public Affairs, Michele Mitola, shared the following tips on how to "power up" your public affairs program, ensuring your messages standout in today’s information-charged world.
- Create a "go to" website or microsite populated with engaging, relevant information.
- Don't assume people will find you on-line.
- Encourage people to share their personal stories and content.
- Include engaging, viral content that people can share.
- Join the on-line conversation.

Issue Snapshot: WATER FOOTPRINT
A lot of companies are focusing on their carbon footprint, but the "next wave" is assessing your water footprint. A recent CERES/Pacific Institute report, done at the request of the Investor Network on Climate Risk, outlines the wide-ranging risks investors and companies face from water scarcity and how global climate change will heighten those risks in many parts of the world. CERES has also created a tool for assessing your company’s exposure to water risk. Look for shareholder resolutions mandating such assessments.

FSC Tip of the Month: CONDUCT A BLOGGER AUDIT
BLOGGER AUDITS: Blogs are a powerful tool that customers, policymakers, the media and others use to help formulate their opinions about your company. A "blogger audit" is a useful tool to identify key blogs and online influencers with whom your organization needs to engage. An audit will not only help you learn how your company is perceived by others, but also how you can best introduce your company into the dialogue. For more information, contact Forum Media President Jeffrey Sindone.
